Lyerly Elementary School is receiving a Travel Plan from the Georgia Safe Routes to Schools Resource Center. The Town of Lyerly is working with Lyerly Elementary School and the Georgia DOT's Safe Routes to School program to create a Travel Plan for the school. This plan will outline the schools needs as for as accomodations for walkers and bike riders safety. The Travel Plan is a $15,000 value and is being provided free of cost by the Georgia Safe Routes to Schools Resource Center.

Down Home Day was Saturday, September 24th in the Lyerly Park. Hundreds came out to celebrate Lyerly's 12oth anniversary. It was our 5th Down Home Day and our biggest turnout ever! The weather was beautiful and we had some great vendors and music. We will be posting some pics soon.
This past Friday was the Town of Lyerly's first annual Play Day at the Angus Mcleod Park. Three grades from Lyerly Elementary spent the afternoon in the park making pine cone bird feeders and taking a story hike. All children and teachers enjoyed the visit and we are already planning the next playday.
Clean Up Day was last Saturday, September 17th at the Lyerly Park @ 9am. All volunteers were greatly appreciated!!! The next cleanup day will be announced soon.
The Town of Lyerly was notified today that they were awarded the ARC Grant (Appalachian Regional Commission) for $233,230, this project will be for the 12" line to Mohawk, improvements at the sewer pond, and sewer line to Smith Ironworks. This grant will save/create jobs at Mohawk and Smith Ironworks.
Lyerly has been named a 2011 Playful City USA Community by KABOOM!, this designation will allow us the opportunity to apply for some exciting playground grants.
GREAT NEWS!!! On 8-27-2011, the Town of Lyerly was awarded a $500,000.00 Community Development Block Grant for water system improvements inside the town limits.
The Town of Lyerly received word August 4th that it was awared a $2,500.00 grant from The Home Depot Foundation to use in making the park playground inclusive for children with disabilities. The grant will go towards new playground fencing, and a handicapped swing. Thanks Home Depot Foundation!
